It has 719 residents as of 2021, and its surface area is 32.216 square kilometers (12.439 sq mi). A paved road connects its three tiny settlements, Chora, Karavostasis, and Ano Meria. It was the location of the Delian League city of Pholegandros&#8217; polis from 425\/4 and 416\/15 BCE. Aratus called the island the iron Pholegandros because of how harsh it was.
